Bakersfield’s Mento Buru Sweet Sound

image

Mento Buru is an extremely popular Bakersfield, California band, You may see them performing for a private party or even opening for a major act at a venue in Bakersfield. Matt Munoz a native of McFarland, California, heads up this group of awesome musicians who no matter how you label their music, it’s just great music! SKA – Latin – Funk – Rock – Reggae -Jazz & even some of the world famous Bako sound thrown in, they play occasionally at the late Buck Owens Crystal Palace, and if you play there you have to be great….these Bako boys are great!

SKA – Latin – Funk – Rock – Reggae -Jazz
Members of Mento Buru –
Matt Munoz: Lead Vox / Sax
Caleb Moore: Bass
Cesareo Garasa: Drums
Pablo Alaniz : Lead Guitar / Vox
Paul Perez: Saxophone
Sal Galindo: Guitar
Joe Vazquez: Trombone

Mento Buru has been teaching Bakersfield how to do the FunkyLatinReggaeSka since 1991! And their description of this sound is: Funky Ska Reggae Mambo Jazz Punk – whatever’s clever, son!
Mento Buru is an 8-piece band that combines Jamaican SKA, rock, funk, salsa, hip-hop, jazz, and punky reggae creating a maddening musical experience.

What started out as just a bunch of friends jamming for backyard parties, has evolved into a cross-cultural phenomenon all over California! Born during the year when grunge and depression were the fashion, Mento Buru didn’t care. It wasn’t about trends and trying to be cool flying the wack, smelly flannel shirt with Doc Marten boots and shorts, it was about having fun playing the music we love, not the latest fad. Whether you’re into Punk, Country, Rockabilly, Cumbia, Salsa, Reggae, Ska, Oi!, Emo, Goth, Metal or whatever weird names they come up with next, you’ll find yourself welcome at the Mento Buru show. As always, musicians are always welcome to join in. Music for the people, by the people. Try it, you’ll like it!

Bakersfield (metropolitan population 406,000) is a growing community projected to double in population in twenty years. Located in Kern County, Bakersfield is at the southern end of California’s Great Central Valley where settlers once found rest and sustenance from the town’s founder and namesake, Colonel Thomas Baker, as they trekked westward to find gold.

Bakersfield is home to one of the fastest flowing rivers west of the Mississippi, the Kern River, where white water rafters enjoy the great outdoors. Others enjoy leisurely walking, biking and roller skating activities along the Kern River Parkway with its 12-foot wide bike path that meanders alongside the Kern River. The Parkway extends nearly 20 miles along the banks of the Kern River, starting at the California Living Museum northeast of town and ending near Cal State Bakersfield.
